Let’s talk about Content Batching

So, what is content batching? Content batching is essentially content creation using the same logic we use for food prepping - only it’s with quality content instead of delicious food. Think about it, we food prep because it saves time and money throughout our week. Well, the same goes for all of our digital marketing content.

This type of planning also leaves room for your business to engage with customers, keep up with trends, react in real-time, and have more time for data crunching. That being said, here are a few steps to getting content batching right.

  1. Pick a filming day - This step doesn’t need much explaining but it is an important one because deadlines make things happen. So pick a filming day and stick to it because it will also serve as a deadline for the following steps.

  2. Create a content strategy & content plan - This step deserves its own post, but for now, I will say, that this step significantly shapes how your brand unfolds online and what results you’ll bring back. Make sure to analyse your data (if you have any) and (whether you do or not) do your research on trends, search terms, and audience behaviour. However your financial year looks, this should be planned on a year-to-year, quarter-to-quarter, and month-to-month basis.

  3. Create a content calendar - By now, you’ve created your content pillars and are ready to plan out day-to-day posts and hashtags. How many months you’re able to plan in advance will depend on the size of your business and the capacity of your marketing team. If you’re only able to produce a few videos or blogs per month, that’s okay, just make sure each piece is as valuable as possible for your customers. If you’re pushing out a ton of content, or otherwise, the content calendar will quite literally be your new best friend.

  4. Organise filming day - Since you’ve done all the planning ahead, you’ll now know the topics, types, and how much content you want to create within your set day. Brilliant, because now it’s time to write your ‘film day outline’, any scripts needed, and book your professionals in. That includes your photographer, videographer, set manager, stylist - or any other creatives you need on set. Don’t forget to invite any collaborators, special guests, or influencers that could be involved in person. Pro-tip: Hire an HMUA. When your aesthetics are done by a professional, you will feel as confident as you look in front of the camera.

  5. Film and edit - If you have the skills and the patience of a videographer, you can give the filming and editing step a go yourself. As most of us know, TikToks and Instagram Reels can easily be done on your phone, it just takes time to learn each interface. However, filming and editing is a time-consuming and vital part of the creative process; if you’re able to pass this part on to a professional, there’s a higher chance that the final product will be more engaging for your audience.

Once you’ve made it through filming day and final edits, congratulations! Your content is now ready for the distribution phase.
